TikTok has introduced a new feature that allows users to limit the amount of AI-generated content in their For You feed. This addition comes in the form of a slider within the “Manage Topics” tool, which lets users customize what they see by indicating a preference for less AI content.
The Manage Topics feature, originally launched in June, lets users control content related to various categories like Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks. Now, a dedicated AI content slider enables users to reduce AI-generated clips without completely removing them, as TikTok cannot detect all AI-created videos yet.
To improve AI content labeling, TikTok is testing invisible watermarks on AI videos made with its tools like AI Editor Pro, and those uploaded with C2PA Content Credentials. These watermarks will help the platform tag AI content more accurately and give users more control over what appears in their feeds. TikTok also requires creators to label realistic AI content.
This update reflects a growing trend across platforms, as Pinterest has recently added similar AI content controls. Despite industry expectations of increasing AI content in social feeds, user enthusiasm appears limited, prompting platforms to offer opt-out options.
TikTok is also investing $2 million to fund experts creating AI literacy and safety content and partnering with the organization Partnership on AI to support responsible AI development.
Overall, this new feature and TikTok’s approach suggest a cautious but evolving integration of AI in social media, balancing technological advancement with user preferences to keep feeds more human-centered. It will be interesting to see how many users choose to limit AI content over time.
