A recent leak suggests that OpenAI is working on a major ChatGPT update that will let users integrate third-party apps and AI agents directly inside the chatbot. Screenshots shared by AI feature trackers show an upcoming Apps section in ChatGPT, with listings for services like Instacart, Gmail, Expedia, and other popular tools that users may be able to connect with a single click.
These app listings resemble a mini app store experience, complete with descriptions, screenshots, and a Connect button that links a user’s ChatGPT account to the selected service. Once connected, ChatGPT could help users perform actions such as planning trips, managing emails, shopping, or accessing personalized data from within a single conversation.
Beyond third-party apps, OpenAI also appears to be building support for AI agents and automated workflows that developers can publish inside ChatGPT. Early details mention an internal project codenamed Hermes and an Agent Builder tool, which would let developers design agentic workflows, attach image generation, and share them via unique URLs.
The leaks indicate that these features are already in advanced testing, hinting that OpenAI may announce them during a December launch event similar to its previous “12 Days of OpenAI” rollout around Christmas. If launched, these changes would move ChatGPT closer to becoming an AI operating layer, where users rely on the chatbot as a central hub for apps, agents, and everyday online tasks.
